TON blockchain has taken a significant step forward by introducing gasless transactions, thanks to a collaboration between TON Core and the non-custodial wallet Tonkeeper. This new development aims to simplify user onboarding and open up new possibilities for transactions on the platform.
Traditionally, blockchain transactions require users to pay a fee, known as "gas," to process their transactions. This fee is usually paid in the blockchain's native cryptocurrency. For example, on the Ethereum blockchain, users pay gas fees in Ether (ETH). However, with the introduction of gasless transactions on the TON blockchain, users no longer need to hold the native toncoin to facilitate payments. Instead, they can use other currencies like USDT and Notcoin for their transactions.
The key to this new feature is the W5 smart wallet upgrade, which was originally developed by Tonkeeper and later approved as a standard by the TON Core team. This upgrade not only enables gasless transactions but also supports advanced parallel processing. This means that up to 255 transactions can be processed simultaneously, making the system more efficient and opening up new use cases.
The introduction of gasless transactions is expected to make it easier for new users to join the TON blockchain. Without the need to hold toncoin, users can start making transactions more easily, which could attract more people to the platform. This is particularly significant given that TON aims to tap into Telegram's massive user base of 950 million people. Popular mini-app games like Notcoin, Hamster Kombat, Yescoin, and Catizen, which use TON for transactions, are likely to benefit from this development.
