The hacker is allegedly selling this access on an underground forum, posing significant risks to user privacy and security.
The account in question, known as "KodexGlobal," is purportedly a law enforcement request account. Such accounts are typically used by authorities to issue subpoenas or emergency data requests to gather information during investigations. The hacker has advertised the sale of this account for $5,000, or alternatively, is offering to issue an emergency data request for $300 each.
The unauthorized access to such a tool is alarming as it could enable the hacker, or anyone purchasing the service, to illicitly obtain personal information from users of platforms like LinkedIn, Discord, Tinder, Binance, Coinbase, and Chainlink. This information could then be used for identity theft, financial fraud, or other malicious activities, putting countless users at risk.
According to Hudson Rock, a cybersecurity firm, it is believed that the hacker gained access to the KodexGlobal account through credentials obtained from Infostealer Infections. These infections often result from compromised law enforcement computers, indicating a serious breach in security protocols within law enforcement agencies.
Binance, one of the potentially affected platforms, has responded to the incident, stating that they are aware of the situation and are investigating.
