Alexander Mordvintsev, a Russian engineer at Google, was inspired by a dream in May 2015 to reverse engineer a convolutional neural net, a machine learning algorithm designed to perform image recognition, into an image generation system that could be used by artists. The original implementation stitched together a number of then-budding libraries and services and rewrote the entire process from scratch, digesting the external dependencies into a monolithic program.

Artworks stored on the blockchain (and artworks made with AI) exist in symbiosis with the machines that generate them. Artists will inhabit this scaffold, nourishing its latent narratives and crafting its archetypes. Unlike an exhibition, the collection is best understood in process, viewed against backdrop of continuous change.
